A 50-year-old female ski tourer was caught and killed by an avalanche in Kehlstein. The avalanche struck in a steep gully and she was dragged ca 50 meters to a cliff edge and then ca 100 meters over rocky terrain. Fellow tourers saw the accident and called rescue services, but she sadly died on the spot.

Steep slopes

Avalanches are most common on steep slopes of 25–45 degrees.

Early season avalanches

The snow layer can be weak in the beginning of the season. Early season avalanches can also be treacherous since rocks and other things can be exposed or be just below the surface.
