The bodies of two US tourists have been located in Alberta, Canada, after they were caught in an avalanche in the Banff National Park.

The bodies were recovered on Friday morning at around 10:30 (16:30 GMT), Parks Canada said. A rescue team discovered snowshoe tracks leading to avalanche debris.

Avalanche risk is reported to be high in the area.

It can help to be in a group of 3-5

In a group of only two, there is a risk that both are caught in the avalanche or that one person is alone in the search and rescue and is not able to fetch help. Risk tend to rise in groups of more than 5.

From flat to steep

Where a slope goes from flat to steep there is often a weakness in the snow pack so be careful.
